While in Los Angeles this summer I happened upon the Los Angeles swim stadium. Strange to say that considered I grew up in the area and have family that lives nearby but truth be told I never really cared about swimming or anything having to do with water so I had no reason to care about an olympic caliber pool in my backyard for peanuts. In SF trying to get into a crappy pool will set you back $5-$20. At the LA swim stadium which is run by the City of Los Angeles you pay...$2.50. Wow.
More importantly it was the site of the 1932 Los Angeles Olympics. How often can you say you swim in an olympic sized pool...used in an actual olympics.
Also while in Los Angeles my mom and I made our way down to Santa Monica beach and rented a tandem.

Another family tradition has become mini golf with my mom and brother. Despite the 90+ degree heat we had a ton of fun.
When I lived in Marin one of my favorite things to do was invite friends from the city to hike in the Point Reyes national seashore.
Our picnics now involve cheese, bread and the occasional bottle of wine. Can’t complain about that. Beautiful scenery + good friends + cheese and wine = awesome.
